EI report of Tongliao Meihua's technical renovation project (from threonine to valine) approved 11-07-2023

On 26 Oct., the Ecological Environment Bureau of Tongliao City approved and published the environmental impact (EI) report of "technical renovation project of switching production from threonine to valine" that was submitted by Tongliao Meihua Biological Sci-tech Co., Ltd. (Tongliao Meihua).

Project overview

  • Type of project: reconstruction and expansion
  • Construction site location: Mulitu Industrial Park, Tongliao City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region
  • Investment amount: USD4.53 million (RMB32.55 million); USD97,941 (RMB703,000), 3.16% of the total investment, will be for environmental protection purposes
  • Site area: 15,494 square metres
  • Construction details: In the company's factory compound, the existing fermentation building, extraction building and production devices of the previously-implemented "40,000 t/a fermentation product threonine technical renovation project" will be renovated for the purpose of switching the production from threonine to valine. Upon completion of the project construction, the operation of existing 40,000 t/a fermentation production line for threonine will be completely terminated.
  • Product scheme: 21,811 t/a for feed-grade valine
  • Major raw materials needed in production: self-produced starch sugar
  • Production process: microbial anaerobic fermentation method
  • Number of budgeted posts: 99
  • Working schedule: Production staff will be divided into four groups that are on shifts in rotation. There will be three 8-hour shifts per working day and 333 working days per year.
  • Economic benefits: It is estimated the project will generate yearly average operating revenue of USD59.46 million (RMB426.79 million) and yearly average net profit of USD1.44 million (RMB10.33 million), after coming on stream.
  • Tongliao Meihua is capable of processing 800,000 t/a of corn and producing 538,000 t/a (dry basis) of starch as a raw material for several amino acids that it produces. As for production capacities in hand, the company has 250,000 t/a for threonine, 200,000 t/a for (gourmet powder) monosodium glutamate, 171,700 t/a for starch sugar, etc.
